Whose Fact Is It?, free and nothing to download
Whose Fact Is It? is a simple and very effective icebreaker for groups who don't know each other: each person secretly writes something true and surprising about themselves (“I once slept in an igloo”, “I can play the bagpipes”), the facts come out shuffled one at a time and the group tries to guess whose each one is. On a single phone, the phone is passed around so everyone writes their fact without the others seeing, and then it goes in the middle to read the facts and reveal the author. Each on your own phone, with a room, everyone sees the fact at the same time, votes in secret on whose they think it is and the game hands out points: one for guessing right and, for whoever wrote it, one for each person they fool. It works just as well in a meeting over a video call as in class or on a team's first day.
Tips and variations
- The more unexpected the fact, the better: look for something nobody would link to you.
- Can't think of anything? Tap “Need an idea?” and you'll get a topic to write about.
- After each reveal, ask the author to tell the story behind it: that's where you really get to know each other.
