Dots and Boxes, free and nothing to download
Dots and boxes is the little box game we all played on the back page of a notebook. Here you can play it two ways: on one phone on the table or each on your own, by creating a room and sharing the link even if you're far apart. Take turns tapping between two dots to draw a line, and whoever closes a box fills it with their color and goes again. There are three board sizes, a live score and final standings. It starts out calm and ends with chains of boxes that decide the game.
Tips and variations
- Don't draw the third side of a box: the next player gets it for free.
- In the end it's all about chains: count how many boxes each one gives away before opening it.
- Sometimes it pays to leave your opponent two boxes so you can take the long chain.
