Sea Battle, free and nothing to download
The pen-and-paper naval battle classic, in the spirit of games like Battleship, with no grid paper or pencil. Each player places their ships in secret, by hand or at random, and you can play two ways: on one phone, passed back and forth with a screen that hides the board until the shooter is holding it, or each on your own phone, by creating a room and sharing the link, even if you're far apart. Hit, sunk or miss, with sound and the rule that you fire again when you hit. There's a classic 10x10 fleet and a quick 8x8 one for short games.
Tips and variations
- Don't put your ships against the edges: that's where everyone looks first.
- After a hit, try the four neighboring squares before searching elsewhere.
- Use the water marked around each sunk ship: there's nothing left there.
