Find Your Pair, free and nothing to download
Find Your Pair is a simple icebreaker to mix up a group and make pairs without anyone picking favorites. Each person secretly gets half of a famous pair: salt and pepper, Batman and Robin, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, chalk and blackboard. Without showing their screen or saying their word, everyone asks questions and gives clues to find whoever has the other half, so each person talks with several people in just a few minutes. If the group is odd, the game deals one trio of three things that go together, like red, amber and green, so nobody is left out. There are two kinds of pairs: easy ones you guess at once, and tricky ones that take a little thought, like Romulus and Remus or numerator and denominator. On one phone, each person looks at their word in secret and all the pairs are revealed at the end. Each on your own phone, with a room, every phone shows only its own word and each person picks from the list whoever they think is their pair: if you both pick each other and you really match, the pair is found and the room sees how many are left. When you're done, the pairs you've made are ready for the next team game.
Tips and variations
- Saying the word is banned, but clues aren't: ask if you can eat it, if it's in a fairy tale or if you use it at home.
- With people who don't know each other, start with the easy pairs; the tricky ones work better once the group has warmed up.
- Use the pairs you end up with for the next team game, like Charades or People Bingo.
