How to play

Chess, free and nothing to download

Classic chess, ready to play three ways: with one phone in the middle of the table, against the computer at three difficulty levels or each on your own phone, by creating a room and sharing the link even if you're far apart. Tap a piece to see its possible moves. The game applies every official rule, from castling and en passant to promotion, detects checkmate and draws, and records every move. Play at your own pace or with a clock, from 1 to 90 minutes per player with extra seconds per move, just like in tournaments.

Can we play chess each on our own phone?

Yes: choose "Everyone on their own phone", create a room and share the link or the code. You each move your pieces from your own phone and the board updates instantly on both, even far apart. Whoever creates the room picks the clock, and you swap colors on every rematch.

Can I play chess against the computer?

Yes, at three levels: easy, which often makes mistakes; normal, which looks a couple of moves ahead; and hard, which calculates several moves and gives nothing away. On a single phone without a clock, you can undo your moves. In a room, whoever creates it can add the computer as an opponent.

How does the clock work?

Before starting you choose each player's minutes and the seconds added per move, like in tournaments. Only the clock of the player to move runs, and it starts with the first move. If you run out of time you lose, unless your opponent doesn't have the pieces to checkmate: then it's a draw. If you pause, the clocks stop.

When is it a draw?

When the player to move has no legal moves and isn't in check (stalemate), when the same position repeats three times, after 50 moves each with no captures or pawn moves, when neither side has enough pieces to checkmate, or when one player offers a draw and the other accepts. The game detects automatic draws on its own.
